Search Engine Optimization: Understanding Your SEO Figures

Your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is all to do with making your website more search engine friendly. When you run analytic programs it is usually to see how your SEO is coming along and how your website is doing regarding traffic numbers and such. Here are a few SEO terms that you may have heard and what they mean.

Unique Visitors

These are the amount of people who have looked at your web page. They are called unique visitors to give you a better idea of how many people actually visited as oppose to how many times the page was visited. It rules out the people who may have come back to your website several times in one day.

RSS Feed Visitors

This is a powerful metric that few people appreciate. If people are signed up to your RSS feed then they are doing so in order to keep up to date with the things you are posting on your website or blog. The fact that they keep coming back means you are doing something right and it is a very good sign for the health of your website if the RSS feed visitor numbers are slowly rising.

Bounce Rate

If people leave your website within three to ten seconds then it is considered a bounce. Sadly, the bounce rate is not a great judge of how bad your website is, as many people open up tabs on search engine results and do not get to your web page within ten seconds. Still, if you have a high bounce rate then something is going very wrong.

Loading Times

The loading time will affect your website SEO in a big way. Improving the loading time can see you shift a few places up the search engine results in a fairly short space of time. The loading time is measured from the initial render to the point where every element on the web page has been loaded up.

At the moment the render time is not measured and is not part of the Google SEO factor. However, there is a chance that in the future Google is going to find a way of measuring your render times. In anticipation of this you may want to find a way to lower your render times, such as putting the CSS3 as an external resource, but calling to it very early in the loading process (i.e. putting it near the top of page full of code).

Broken Links

If you have a lot of broken links then Google does not like it. If you have a lot of broken links within your website then Google gets very snippy about it. If you have a lot of broken links from other websites then Google may start to suspect that you have been spamming or doing some other form of black-hat SEO.

Followed Backlinks

The backlinks for your website come from other websites (other domains). If they are followed then Google will index them and they will help your SEO so that your website goes a little further up the search engine results pages. All HTML links are automatically followed unless they are programmed otherwise for whatever reason.

No-Follow Backlinks

It is possible to add a tag to a backlink so that Google will not read it. It still works as a backlink for direct traffic but you will get no SEO benefit from it. When you see no follow links on your reports you need not worry. They are not bad things--in fact it is a good thing to have a lot of them. It is just that they are not adding to your SEO, and that is the main motivator behind people wanting followed links (because they want that search engine benefit).

Where is Your Traffic Coming From?

You can use analytic programs to see where the traffic for your website and for your blog is coming from. You can see if it is coming from other websites of the same nature, from directories, from search engines, from social media, etc. Knowing this may help you craft your next online marketing move.

For example, if you are getting a lot of traffic from search engines then it is a good idea to maintain that, but it may also be a good idea to start branching out into newer areas too. This has two benefits and the first is that you get more traffic on top of what you are getting now. The second benefit is that if you are ever suddenly knocked down the search engine results then you are not going to suffer as badly. These are just a few reasons why it is important to see where your traffic is coming from.

Organic SEO vs Google AdWords: Which one should you go for?

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is about making your website more search engine friendly. Organic SEO is a little misleading in this case. Most people do not realize that organic SEO means simply creating optimized pages and letting nature (online intercourse) do the rest. Most people think that organic SEO means running and maintaining yours on and off page SEO on a full time basis, and that is what this article assumes it means too.

seo vs google adwords

In essence you should go for both

This is truer than the fact that Snow White had neck ache from always looking down. You should essentially go for SEO and ranking up your website, and you should go for Google AdWords. The trouble is that Google AdWords is not a long term solution for most people, but that does not mean it cannot be. There are quite a few people who have a self sustaining Google AdWords account.

Google wants you on Google AdWords

This is truer than the fact that Doc from Snow White was sent to prison for practicing medicine without a license. Every time Google creates an update their profits soar and this is for two reasons. The first is because websites with Google Adsense on them seem to mysteriously rank up, and the second is because people fall from the Search Engine results and have to start paying for Google AdWords adverts if they want traffic.

Organic SEO takes a lot of time

This is truer than the fact that Sneezy misunderstood the term diamond dust and had a mishap with a rolled up twenty. It takes a long time to get your SEO off the ground and a very long time to organically get your website ranked up the search engine results. This is mainly because there is so much competition that you are fighting against hundreds of thousands of other websites, many of which are not actually direct competitors to your business but are competitors for the keywords you are using.

Google AdWords can get you traffic within two minutes

This is truer than the lewd statements Bashful’s wife made at the divorce hearing. If you create an advert with Google AdWords and you know your stuff such as the right keywords to choose and such, then you may potentially get traffic within the first two minutes of posting your advert.

Organic SEO can be expensive

This is truer than the fact that Grumpy left his wife Moody for her hotter sister Moany. It is not supposed to be expensive to use SEO because you have no direct overhead in the strictest sense. But, if you add up all the productive hours you are going to use in order to do your SEO then you are making quite a loss. Imagine if you were paying a member of staff to do your SEO for you.

Do not forget that direct links are the same as adverts on other people’s websites

This is truer than the fact that Sleepy was frequently seen in the company of Paris Hilton after dark. They are basically a way for people to get to your website without clicking an advert. Adding direct links to other websites is always going to be helpful to your traffic figures, whereas not every affiliate advertising you make is going to be helpful.

Google AdWords will get you a lot of coverage

This is truer than the fact the evil witch could have bought a gun at Wal-Mart for $200 and saved herself a lot of trouble. Google is the biggest and most popular search engine in the world, and so you are going to get a lot of coverage when you use Google AdWords because lots of people use it and your adverts are going to appear on a lot of affiliate websites. You will probably be forced to use Google AdWords in the end because they hold all the cards. Lie down with the devil till you have learnt his tricks--in other words, why not use Google AdWords until you have ranked up your website through the search engine results pages.

Google AdWords can be more expensive in the long run

This is truer than the fact that Happy turned out to be mentally unhinged. It is expensive because if you add up all the money you spent on paying for clicks then over time it is bound to come to a lot of money. On the other hand, if you are ranked highly on a search engine then the traffic you are getting (no matter how much) is essentially coming to you for free when compared with paying for it via Google AdWords.

This is very important feature of Blogspot blogs. Read More option enables us to show the some portion of the blog posts on the home page of blog or on the indexed or label pages. summary_img = 340; //summary length when with image
img_thumb_height = 200;
img_thumb_width = 200;
</script>
<script type='text/javascript'>
//<![CDATA[
function removeHtmlTag(strx,chop){
if(strx.indexOf("<")!=-1)
{
var s = strx.split("<");
for(var i=0;i<s.length;i++){
if(s[i].indexOf(">")!=-1){
s[i] = s[i].substring(s[i].indexOf(">")+1,s[i].length);
}
}
strx =  s.join("");
}
chop = (chop < strx.length-1) ? chop : strx.length-2;
while(strx.charAt(chop-1)!=' ' && strx.indexOf(' ',chop)!=-1) chop++;
strx = strx.substring(0,chop-1);
return strx+'...';
}
function createSummaryAndThumb(pID){
var div = document.getElementById(pID);
var imgtag = "";
var img = div.getElementsByTagName("img");
var summ = summary_noimg;
        if(thumbnail_mode == "yes") {
if(img.length>=1) { imgtag = '<span style="float:left; padding:0px 10px 5px 0px;"><img src="'+img[0].src+'" width="'+img_thumb_width+'px" height="'+img_thumb_height+'px"/></span>';
summ = summary_img;
}
}
var summary = imgtag + '<div>' + removeHtmlTag(div.innerHTML,summ) + '</div>';
div.innerHTML = summary;
}
//]]>
</script>
<!-- Auto read more script End -->
  • Now find this code: <data:post.body/>
  • Replace this code with the code given below:
<!-- Auto read more Start -->

<data:post.body/>
<b:else/>

<script type='text/javascript'> createSummaryAndThumb(&quot;summary<data:post.id/>&quot;);
</script>

</b:if>
</b:if>
<!-- Auto read more End -->
  • Replace all if there is more than one code.
  • Save your template by clicking the Save button.

On the hand publishers earn the good amount of money to show the advertisers ads on their blogs/websites through Adsense.

Due to these reasons it is the dream of every new blogger to get the Adsense Approval and make money with his/her blog.

BuySellAds (BSA)

BSA is also the one of the best online advertising networks. Bloggers can earn huge money with BSA. After the BSA approval, we need to place the BSA advertise here banner codes on our blog where we want to show the ads and to demand the money for that space. Indirectly we sell advertising space of our blog to the advertisers for a period of time. Advertisers select the space on your blog and place their ad there. In this way BSA works and you get the money in Advance. Like Google Adsense, BSA is also a trustworthy ad network. But it is very difficult to get BuySellAds approval, especially for the small and medium blogs. BSA accepts the blogs with lot of traffic (more than 100000 visitors per month) and quality contents.

Affiliate Marketing

You can earn more than Google Adsense and BSA with Affiliate Marketing if you have a quality niche blog with large amount of traffic. There are many blogs whose main income source is the Affiliate Marketing. There are various affiliate marketing networks like shareasale, amazon, linkshare, commission junction etc. which offers the product to sell on your blog and earn commissions. You can sign up in these networks and start earning though Affiliate Marketing. You can also sell other products of your choice though their affiliate program.

Though Referral Programs

This is also a good option to earn money with your blog’s traffic. You just need to refer users, customers to some websites which pays you for referring users. There are so many websites and services those offer good amount of money for referring friends to their website through their ‘Refer a friend program’. You can easily create your account on their website and start promoting your unique referral url on your blog. When someone signup on their website via your referral link on your blog then you will get some cash. This is one of the easy tasks. You can promote your referral link by placing banners on your blog and by writing reviews and posts related to those products, services and websites.

Direct Advertisement

If your blog has a good standing in the online world and you are getting good traffic then you can also make money through direct advertising on your blog. You have to create an Advertise here page on your blog. When Advertisers visit to blogs and when they see that you are advertising the product directly and getting lot of visitors then they contact the blogger and do the direct adverting deal with them. In this way you can earn money with your blog by directly advertising Advertiser’s Products & Services. You can also start reviewing the products and services on your blog and in this way you can also earn lot of money for each review.

There are many other ways and ad networks those let us to make money with our online contents but they are not so reliable for us and we cann't make the enough money by using them like these methods. Here I published the only the best ways to monetize your blogs.

Hope that you enjoyed the post.

Chitika Review – Best Google Adsense Alternative

Chitika Review :

Chitika is a yet to grow ad network that is best for blogs which are disapproved by google adsense , and don’t have any other options to monetize it’s content. It was around the corner from many years with out any improvement towards the publishers favor , but gained popularity as an alternative to the top ad network which I already said.
I have scene in many forums and discussion boards that lots of people asking : Is chitika a scam ? Anyone received payments from them and how much you make with chitika ?. My answer for all the above question is ‘ It varies with user to user and blog to blog ‘.

What Is Chitika ?

As I already said chitika is a famous ad network that pays their publishers according to CPM and PPC systems. I mean you can earn for both ad clicks as well as unique impressions. Newly they also introduced an affiliate system through the same ads known as conversions.

How Chitika Works ?

The advertisements served by them are very sensitive to the keywords of the particular pages. When a person searches ‘ Chitika review ‘ in google and then reaches this post , an ad related to chitika products will be shown to him. I think now you understood the working nature of chitika.
In case of a direct view of the ad , they may show a blank one or an ad from answered questions dot com. You might already knows it if you are a publisher of chitika.

Types Of Ads

Chitika stays on the first position when it comes to the ad types. They are providing the below ad types for their publishers :

Text Ads :

So, these are the most powerful ads in these days that can be displayed to any operating system. Text ads keep the information outside as a title for blog post, that’s why we can expect more clicks for these stuff.

List unit Ads :

In chitika , I don’t use these ads as they appear like we are blogging for just generating income. That means they occupy most of the place in the sidebar and leaves a clumsy impact on the visitor. We have an option to display upto 3 to 9 text ads in a list, which I don’t recommend.

Mobile Ads :

Now a days the number of mobile internet users are increased by a great extent , so we required to monetize the mobile traffic too to maximize our earnings. In chitika , the mobile ads appear as a small size banners about click to download tools, facebook and anyother thing.

How much Chitika Pays ?

I think this question has been asked for a million times in the Internet, but sadly there is no exact answer for it. They pay around $0.30-$3.00 for each thousand views . You may confuse with the huge difference, in fact your earnings depends on the country from where you are receiving the traffic. If your blog has a good amount of visitors from UK,USA and Canada, then you got the jackpot.
Now coming to the pay per click ads, which are disastrous to think about. I think chitika pays around one cent for each click we receive from our traffic.
Chitika has a nice referral system for their publishers , which makes 10% of referral earnings upto one year.
After reaching the minimum amount of $10 we can make payout to our paypal, but in case of a check it takes $50 to withdraw.

My Final Chitika Review

Overally it’s not an ad network that makes you rich quickly, but it can help atleast to pay our domain or hosting bills. If you are approved to google adsense , then please forget about chitika. I wrote this review on chitika to help my co-bloggers to make a little income who are not into google adsense.

Useful Guide to Write Engaging Blog Contents!

Engaging, according to Merriam-Webster's dictionary, means “very attractive or pleasing in a way that holds your attention.” This word is easy to describe but complicated to achieve.

engage readers
In blogging, holding the attention of the readers can be tricky. Once a blogger or a web administrator attracts people to read, holding them to finish the article will only last nine seconds or less. According to Ted Selker, an expert from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, people who often browse hundreds of web pages grows shallow interest to a lot of things. Their attention span and concentration skills falter because there are many sites they can visit.

Why is it Important to Engage Readers?

Readers are the movers of your web traffic and activity. If they don't engage in reading your contents, sharing, and commenting on it. The site can loose indicators of a quality website. Remember, Google has high standards in choosing which website they'd like to appear in search engine results page. Your backlink is not enough to tell whether your page is good for Google. It must have steady stream of traffic and activity, which your readers can only do if you keep them engaged.

Engaging readers can also lead to:

  • Better Traffic
  • Improve Sales (e-commerce websites)
  • Improve Rankings
  • Promote Community of Readers
  • Improve Social Media Activities
  • Build Stronger Influence

How Do I Engage My Readers?

As mentioned, attracting them is easy but engaging them can be tricky. Many web admins think regular posts are enough to engage them. But they always falls short in soliciting comments and shares.

The way writers make their articles has a lot to do with why this happens. To help you improve your site activity and engage readers, here are few tips that you can do:

Make your article short

Short articles are your best weapons against short attention span. Hold readers' attention in a 500- 600 words content. They can read the article fast, so they have enough time to leave comments.

If you have so many things to write, there are other ways to shorten your blogs, here are few:

  • Embrace Line Breaks
  • Use Subheadings
  • Apply Bullets
  • Bold/ Italicize Words
  • Use Numbers

Start a Blog Series

“ThrowBackThursday” , “FlashBackFriday”, why do you think these hashtags became viral? This is because they are done in a series of post every week, until they are picked by other people. Start a series of posts to encourage people to get back and read the next part of the series. You can start with “Confession Series” or “Q&A Series.” It doesn't have to be episodic. It only needs to have a common theme.

Get Personal

Avoid business tone and use personal tone. This tone appears human and that's what people like reading. This writing style is also easy to read because it sounds conversational. With this tone, readers can understand and relate to the contents fast. Such articles are shareable, so social media activity increases, as well.

Add Visual Elements

If you are blogging serious topics, graphs and charts add credibility to your content. If you want to keep it less formal, infographics and related pictures is a must. You can also add videos to spice things up. Visual elements around a sea of texts combat people's short attention span. Too much words bore readers, so breaking the flow with images and videos help with their concentration.

Utilize News and Viral Topics

As the saying goes, “strike while the iron is hot.” Write an article on the latest trends and news to increase readability and shareability. Write a topic that has not been picked by other websites. If you can't think of anything, you can rehash an old story and make it appear new. Just pick a new angle and you have yourself an engaging article.

Ask People to Engage

Getting direct to the point is not bad. In marketing, a command is better than a suggestive call-to-action. Say “leave a reply” instead of “you can leave a reply” to let people know what you want them to do.

Does it End There?

No! You need to analyze how good your posts are. Which articles get better shares? Which articles get better comments? Why? Is it because of the contents? Did the pictures help? Ask questions and change your plans accordingly.

Like any other things in the world, nothing is constant. Even if you get to understand what your audience wants, it doesn't mean that it won't change. Their interest will evolve so you have to study what's “in” to engage them.

Whether you are blogging to boost sales, attract advertisements or just get someone to read your write-ups, you have to apply these tips. They are effective and will further improve the quality of your website.

Long-tailed vs Short tailed Keywords: Comparison of their Efficiency

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a tricky business for the fact that Google just keeps on moving the goal posts. Again and again they keep changing what we should and shouldn’t do, and now that the Google Hummingbird update is out it seems that the search engine results may start evolving via the type of content web masters put on to it.

seo keywords
The efficiency of long and short tailed keywords is now up for question, especially since some people think the Google Hummingbird update is going to do away with long-tailed keywords and maybe even the reliance on keywords we have. Here is a quick comparison of short and long tailed keywords.

What is a short tailed keyword?

It is just another name for a keyword, although that term is also confusing. A keyword may also be a key phrase as there may be more than one word in it. “Homes in Atlanta” is technically a keyword and key phrase (making it a short tailed keyword too); just like the words “Homes” and “Atlanta” are keywords in themselves.

What is a long-tailed keyword?

A long-tailed keyword is more like a phrase that could be mistaken for a fuller search engine query. Using the example above, “Homes in Atlanta” is a short tailed keyword, whereas “Cheap homes in Atlanta” or “Cheap homes for sale in Atlanta” are long-tailed keywords. Can you see how the long-tailed keyword may be a full search query? You can imagine how someone may just type “Cheap homes for sale in Atlanta” into the search engine and click to search.

One is more efficient at tight targeting

A long-tailed keyword is more descriptive, which means it is better at targeting. A person typing in “Cheap homes for sale in Atlanta” is going to get more targeted results than a person who just uses “Homes in Atlanta.” As you can imagine, if you happen to have the same long-tailed keyword on your web page then whoever searches for a similarly specific web page are going to find you.

One is more efficient at pulling more traffic

The short tailed keyword are more popular, and part of that is because they are used more often. It is difficult to explain, but when a person types in a keyword such as “homes in Atlanta” along with other words, then they are typing in a more popular phrase. It is even present within a long-tailed keyword such as “Cheap homes for sale in Atlanta.” There are going to be more people using the shorter keywords than the longer keywords, even though when they use shorter search terms they make their results vaguer.

Some long-tailed keywords are rarely ever used

If you were to try the Google AdWords keyword tool and plug in a few long-tailed keywords, Google would tell you to never use them because they are never searched for. You can take this advice if you wish, it is up to you, but the fact is that long-tailed keywords are searched for far less than shorter keywords.

Some long-tailed keywords can put you ahead of your competition

If you do just happen upon a long-tailed keyword that brings you traffic, then it is going to bring you very targeted traffic, which means the traffic is going to be glad to see you there on the search engine results. If you happen to have that special long-tailed keyword that matches the query that your target customers are using, then you will also find yourself very high up the search engine results pages for that query.

Shorter keywords have more competition

There are more people using them on the search engines, so it stands to reason that you are going to have more competition for them. That is why it is so difficult to rank up through the search engine results when you use shorter-phrase or single keywords only.

Shorter keywords attract less targeted visitors

As explained above, if the keyword phrase is shorter then it is open to more of an interpretation. For example, the “Homes in Atlanta” keyword may mean resting homes, funeral homes, homes to rent, homes to buy, and so on. And, if you are just selling houses then you can see how your appearing in the search engine results is going to cause a muddle because most people who are doing the searching do not want you. On the other hand, if you ran your entire website with long-tailed keywords then long-tailed keywords could have you waiting forever for a bit of traffic.
